Marco Schwartz is an entrepreneur, investor, and author. As a trained electrical engineer, he was always interested by new technologies and he discovered Bitcoin in late 2013.
He was immediately fascinated by the technology and started to invest using Bitcoin. He is the author of the Smart Bitcoin Investment blog, where he regularly shares his knowledge & advices about Bitcoin investment.
Bitbond: Hey Marco, thank you for the opportunity to talk to you. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you were introduced to bitcoin?
Marco: Thanks for the opportunity to talk about Bitcoin investing! My name is Marco Schwartz, and I have a background in electrical engineering & computer science.
I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur since 2013, and I’ve been running information websites about DIY electronics.
I was introduced to Bitcoin in late 2013, and immediately gripped by this fascinating technology.
I invested my first Bitcoin in early 2014, and since then I have grown my portfolio & learned a lot about Bitcoin investing in the process.
Bitbond: Now you run an excellent blog on bitcoin investing. Can you tell us what the aim of the blog is, and why you decided to start it?
Marco: Thanks! The aim of the blog is to help people make investment returns using Bitcoin P2P lending, cloud mining, or buying securities.
I started the blog to share what I learned about Bitcoin investing, and help as many people as possible to make great investment returns.
On the blog & in the podcast, I share my best investment strategies, and I also compare the different platforms that people can use to invest their bitcoins.
Bitbond: As an investor, what are the features do you use most often on Bitbond and which have the most potential for the future? How many loans have you invested in on Bitbond?
Marco: I just checked, I have 18 active loans on Bitbond. As an investor, I am usually using the Bitbond filters a lot to find the best loans I can invest in.
What I really like is the clean interface and the reactivity of the user interface. I think the auto-invest feature definitely has a lot of potential for the future.
Bitbond: Do you invest in traditional p2p platforms? If so, what sets Bitbond apart from these?
Marco: I also invest in P2P platforms in the Euro currency, on platforms like Bondora and Mintos. Compared to these platforms, I like the fact that investing in Bitcoin on Bitbond can get me higher returns.
Typically, the annual return on a traditional P2P platform is around 12%, whereas you can reach around 20% on Bitcoin P2P lending platforms like Bitbond.
I also really like the fact that Bitbond allows to lend to anybody in the world, whereas with traditional platforms you are usually limited to one geographic zone like Europe.
Bitbond: What is the highest amount you have invested in a single loan, and why is that?
Marco: I can definitely still remember this one. It was one of my first investment in Bitcoin P2P lending, and I was really experimenting with it without any real knowledge of what I was doing.
I invested one Bitcoin (then worth around 400 euros) in a single loan that looked alright.
I was very lucky that it turned out alright and the borrower repaid the whole loan, but this was really foolish from me.
It was definitely a mistake due to the lack of experience and knowledge that I had about P2P lending. You definitely need to spread your investments as much as possible, and wait if no good opportunities are available.
Bitbond: Are the returns on your investments your primary source of income or do you have other revenue streams beside your Smart Bitcoin Investment blog?
Marco: The returns coming from my Bitcoin investment portfolio are a part of a larger investment portfolio, which contains more ‘classical’ assets like real estate and stocks/bonds.
As I mentioned before, I am also investing in fiat currencies P2P lending, especially in Euros.
As an investor, I am always looking for diversification, and therefore I see Bitcoin investment as a great asset that can have its place in any diversified investment portfolio.
Bitbond: Thank you so much for your time and agreeing to talk to us. Do you have any final tips and tricks for potential Bitbond investors who are reading this?
Marco: It was my pleasure. As a final tip for potential investors, I will just give one word: diversify. It’s only people like you and me behind all the loans, and bad things happen to everyone.
So never invest a lot of money even in the perfect loan, and spread your capital as much as possible.
