Amazon. One of the biggest online retailer that has ever existed and a central part of so many people’s lives, especially with the recent launch of their new household Alexa product which will mean so many more people will be using the internet giant.
It’s such a profitable business for everybody selling online, from moms at home to full-scale global businesses. However, with so many businesses out there competing on Amazon alone, how have you got a chance of getting up there to the top spot of the search engine result page?
Even just on the US version of Amazon, the company currently sells over 480 million products and of course they’re not all the same products, but that’s a hell of a lot of competition that you’ve got to get your product in front of. It’s quite possibly one of the most competitive markets out there.
Today, we’ll explore several ways you can take control of your Amazon SEO, your products, your product listings and everything in between which promises to result in more traffic and more sales!
Customer is King
As with all internet giants these days, it’s vital that you remember one key element; Amazon cares about its customers. Whether it’s their customers shopping on their website or the products that they’re buying, Amazon is watching and making sure that they have the best experience, so they don’t go anywhere else.
In everything you do, post, edit and upload, make sure that you’ve put the customer at the forefront of every decision that you’ve made. This means making sure that your pictures accurately represent your products, as does the language and the tone of voice that you write your product information in.
Although not as complicated or as advanced yet, Amazon does use algorithms, just like Facebook and Google do. These computer patterns monitor their user’s browsing habits. So, if a customer is clicking on your product page and clicking back within a few seconds, your product will go down the ranking.
Bear this in mind, and the fact that Amazon will slowly push out upgrades for this algorithm, probably over the next year or so!
Using Keywords in Your Title
If you’ve been running a website for some time, you’ll understand that keywords are still just as important as they ever have been but other elements, especially in Google, have overtaken. However, on Amazon, keywords are still the leading factor of the A9 search engine and need to be utilised properly.
With this in mind, you’ll want to cram up your keywords so users can find your products. According to the shopping giant itself, you’ll need to include; the brand, the product, the material, the product type, the colour, the size and the packaging. You can find other relevant keywords using Google’s own Ad Words system or check out this blog from Moz.
Check out the titles of your competitors or even just over products, and you’ll see what I mean. The titles are crammed with all the keywords you can imagine that is relatable to that product. For example;
A Rubiks Cube, that could simply be called that, is actually listed as ‘Rubiks Cube 3-D Puzzles Cube 3x3x3 Smooth Speed Magic Cube Puzzle and Easy Turning’. Now, that’s not the easiest to roll off the tongue, but it does get create product search engine placement!
“When finding keywords, it may even pay to use phrases that customers might search. Using the example above, Customer A might search Rubiks Cube, whereas Customer B might search something like Best Rubiks Cube for Children, or for adults etc. The list goes on and on” – explains William Boatwright, a SEO Manager at Resumention.
The best way to approach this problem is to highlight and define your target audience so you can market to them with precision.
Using Perfect Content
Just like Google, if your content is full of errors and mistakes, such as spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, Amazon is going to rank your product poorly. Always check your title, your product description and any other content you have on your product pages.
Alternatively, you can use a professional service to guarantee quality, such as Ox Essays or My Writing Way. Using this and similar resources, you can make sure that you’re giving your customer the highest quality experience possible.
From the moment that your lead clicks on the link to your product page on Amazon to the moment they open your product at home and start using it, you want to make sure that they are happy.
“This is such an important point to remember as not only will poor quality content harm your business when it comes to Amazon search engine rankings; it will also damage your credibility as a business in the eyes of your customers. If you can’t spell words properly or use grammar correctly, how are you supposed to give your customers the best experience?” – says Lisa Milardo, a Product Manager at Dissertation writing service.
Use Online Resources
This is just scratching the surface when it comes to getting your products to the top of the Amazon result pages. However, there is a tonne of resources available that can help provide you with any information you need as well as giving you the means to optimise your descriptions and page titles further.
No matter what task you’re trying to carry out when it comes to updating or enhancing your Amazon product pages, always remember that there are tools out there that can help.
The internet is overflowing with resources and tutorials to help you better your business so don’t risk doing a poor and potentially damaging adjustment, update or change on your product pages just because you risked doing something when you didn’t know what you were doing.
This could include using different images, especially when it comes to image size, changing the language you’re using or using different areas of the page that Amazon gives you to edit and make your own.
Optimizing Your Product Pages
Just like the above where you’ve optimised your product titles, it’s important to optimise the rest of the content on each of your product pages.
You can do this by adding specially positioned keywords into your product description overview and your extended product descriptions. This may mean that you’ve got to re-write your existing description, so they make sense by it will be worth it when it starts to generate you more sales.
Not only will this help the A9 system to put your products at the top of the search engine results page, but it will also help to better your customer experience once again. The better your pages, the more information you’re giving your customer and the more likely they are to make a purchase.
The more sales you make, the higher your product will be ranked against your competitor’s. As you can see, this all goes hand in hand with the first consideration of giving your customers the best experience you possibly can.
Optimising Your Product Pages: Part Two
But wait, there’s more. Not only do you need to edit optimising your product pages with keywords, but you’ll also need to optimise the pages themselves, and there’s a lot that can be optimised to boost your product ranking as well as your overall click-through rate.
Firstly, consider the images you’re using for your products. Are they high-quality and do they positively show the product that you’re trying to sell? You’ll also want to check to make sure that your product has a tonne of good reviews as this is what customer predominantly look at after deciding the product is what they’re looking for.
You also need to optimise your text. You can do this using a tool like Simple Grad to make sure your content isn’t long-winded and is easily digestible to your reader. You can also use copywriting services such as Best British Essays to make sure that your content stands out and grabs your reader’s attention.
Now that you’ve learned the basic of optimising your Amazon product pages, you should be able to start editing your pages today, and you’ll instantly start to see a boost in your product ratings and sales.
Be sure to regularly check online sources of information to make sure that you stay up to date with everything that’s going on in the Amazon world. One of these most important aspects that you’re going to want to remember is the algorithms coming into play over the next few months and years are only going to get more and more advanced.
This means, just like Google did, the keywords could be dropped completely overnight, and you need to make sure that you’re ready for these changes! Good luck!
